War Efforts (Second World War) Years

The Windsor Rotary Club not only maintained its involvement in the various aspects of Community Service during the war years, but its membership gave leadership in promoting the many campaigns. These included the sale of war savings certificates and support of Air Cadets and of the Red Cross. The minutes of September 1941, noted that $400 was raised for the Queen's Canadian Fund, by means of street dances, band concerts, etc. A project which called for much organization was salvage drives which included a collection of clothing for shipment to bombed-out areas of Britain. Ten Thousand pounds of such clothing were sent from Windsor. A committee within the Club carried out visits to patients in Military hospitals and also entertained Servicemen in the homes of Rotarians. Magazines and books were collected and distributed in the Military Hospitals and the army training camps. The Club Bulletin of December 11, 1947, mentioned that the Windsor and Eaton Clubs of England had sent a letter of thanks for a gift of sixteen crates of clothing and food, including butter and cheese.
